Leading Yourself is a recorded professional learning workshop for child care leaders, directors, operators, supervisors, and educators who want to protect their capacity, prevent burnout, strengthen boundaries, and lead from a more sustainable foundation.

This workshop focuses on the inner work of leadership — how to recognize early signs of burnout, understand your leadership capacity, set healthier communication boundaries, and lead with greater clarity, steadiness, and self-awareness.

In this recorded session, Krystal Churcher walks through practical leadership tools, real early learning leadership examples, and reflection frameworks that can be applied directly in a centre, program, agency, or leadership role.

Inside this digital resource pack, you will receive:

• Access information for the recorded Zoom workshop
• Workshop presentation slides
• Full workshop workbook
• Supporting handout: Leading Yourself — A Practical Self-Check Tool for Childcare Leaders
• Supporting handout: Boundary Scripts & Communication Reset Tool

The first handout includes the five capacity areas, burnout pattern map, red/yellow/green capacity check, weekly leadership capacity review, and a 10-minute reset tool.

The second handout provides practical boundary language, script examples, urgent vs. non-urgent communication guidance, and a boundary planning worksheet for ELCC leadership settings.

Topics covered include:

• Recognizing early warning signs of burnout
• Understanding emotional, mental, physical, relational, and leadership capacity
• Identifying when leadership strain is connected to workload, systems, boundaries, support, conversations, ownership, or inner pressure
• Using a red/yellow/green capacity check to notice when support or change is needed
• Protecting leadership capacity before depletion becomes a crisis
• Setting calm, clear, consistent communication boundaries
• Separating urgent from non-urgent communication
• Responding to after-hours messages, interruptions, emotional conversations, repeated questions, and workload requests
• Saying no without over-explaining
• Resetting team communication patterns in a respectful and professional way
• Building a more sustainable approach to leadership in child care settings

This workshop is designed for professional learning and leadership development in early learning and child care settings.

It is especially useful for leaders who are still functioning, but feeling stretched; who are carrying too much emotional or operational weight; or who want practical language and tools to support healthier leadership habits.
